Hi Jimmy. I went for Phacelia tanacetifolia in the end (I read somewhere how rabbits relish clover and it gave me horrible visions of invasion :o) I'm sure though that I was over-reacting as I also read that some gardeners actually plant clover as a diversion away from their veg - something I might well try myself if they do indeed prove to be a problem).
No probs. They cost me £6.90 (which includes the £1 postage) for two 100g packets. Plenty enough I hope (200g is said to cover 100 m2. My entire plot is 118 m2, and I'm not covering the bottom end). I'll put a link to The Organic Gardening Catalogue on the home page as I think this is a good site.
Thanks for the reassurence over the tree roots. I think I was panicking a bit :o) Although I'm now considering 'walling' my beds with spit-deep strips of the black polythene that I recover when I raise it, as part of my moisture-retention plan. By all accounts we're heading for big problems this summer with drought down here, and also for the foreseable future :o(
Wow! I only saw my first crocus this week, so you are doing well with the weather! Although saying that I also saw my first daff in flower (which I'm sure you can't beat!) :o)
