Hi Jimmy. Apologies for not getting to your comment yesterday (that age old time complaint again) but I'm glad you picked up on the inclusion of the woods in this post (they are from FSC registered sources - see second link down on homepage for where I got them).

The perimeter bed is somewhat narrower (1m wide) than what I hope the main growing beds to be (standard 1.25m), this, and the fact that the stock wire fence presents little problem to weed through, should mean that it's relatively easy to keep weed free (I hope) :o)

You might of noticed that I've gone for three oak stakes per 8m plank which means that it's plenty strong (I was a little concerned over warping) and decided to keep them on the inside mainly to avoid tripping up on them (it looks like my internal paths will now only be 50cm wide - a decision that I hope I shaln't come to regret). Refer back to my recent New Plan post for a schematic of how I hope the plot when all's done.

That's an interesting fact you meantioned about pigs and beechwood. I'll poise a question for you: Which is the only British wood that sinks in water? (I'm less confident though of my answer after doing a wed search on it) :o)

Best Regards,
Tim

Hi Tim ,
Work is going on I see - well done.
I hade a lot to read this time .
I can see you are realy hard working in the plot the last day's ,the perimeter bed looks verry good to me .
I think 1m is wide anough for the bed.
My best regards
Rita

Cheers Rita. Construction has ground to a halt on the new bed as I wait on a shipment of the oak stakes that hold the planks in place. This wednesday, hopefully..

1m does seem plenty wide enough, yes, and I may well end up making my veg growing beds a similar width. I'll see how I get on with only having 50cm wide paths, and make them wider (and the beds narrower) if they don't suit.

Best Regards also,
Tim :o)x
