The physalis that I grew from a shop brought fruit has begun to ripen. Unfortunately I made a hash of picking this first one and the 'gooseberry' inside burst in the process - it still tasted good though.

What is a phsalis? It looks intriguing.

I'm a big fan of them. We used to call them Cape Gooseberries, but recently we seem to find them more often under their species name of Physalis. They have a spicy sweet/sour taste which isn't to everybody's liking but I love them and they are definitely worth a try.
