Hi Jimmy. I hope your Xmas break was a good n'. Not too many 'wee drams' I hope :o)
> no hills and a distinct lack of mountains.
Certainly no mountains :o) Typical gently rolling Kentish countryside I'd say. I'll have to look up the exact height above sea level (within a hundred feet at a guess) but the allotments are at the top of 'a rise' so flooding isn't a problem.
> the Sorbus looks like none I have ever seen
Looking it up in my copy of the Hamlyn Guide to the Trees of Britain and Europe (and it took some digging out - the book that is :o) ) I'm plumbing for Sorbus rupicola. It doesn't have a common name, which is the reason I think it isn't listed in the Natural History Museum's Postcode plants database which I have linked from the blog. The leaves and berries I remember as being similar, and I'm trying to think positive (in the hope that it remains the 'small tree' that the book describes it as :o)
> the capital of Highland Region.
Inverness, eh? I lived my first five years of life in Lerwick on the Shetland Islands (my old man worked for the MET Office there) so I've a soft spot for your part of the world. I can rembember going for a holiday aged around 8 along the coast from you somewhere. I'll have to ask my mum for details though.
> By day - By night.
You've met the Captain then :o) I really must put some renewed effort in there come the new year. I've a Yahoo! group on naval fiction that you might also be interested in (which reminds me that I need to update the link on my eBay 'About Me' page). You don't happen to be an O'Brian fan? :o)
Past the shortest day now so spring's coming ever nearer!
