Hi Jimmy. Looking it up today I've a strong feeling that it's a member of the Rowan family (Sorbus sp.), and is hopefully one of the smaller kinds. I guess my somewhat drink inspired post :o) was as much a statement that I'm not going to view it as a nuisance (taking light, moisture and nutrients from the plot) but as a positive attribute.
I'll hopefully respond more to this at a later date (that old beer bottle has gotten the better of me again tonight) :o)
> Have you made any plans for what to plant come the spring?
I'm answering these out of order, sorry :o) I'm thinking now of growing a 'living mulch' over the first summer. I've a seed packet somewhere of 'annual flowers that attract beneficial insects' which will be just the ticket (if they are still viable, that is - I'll sow them early in trays to make sure and to be able to plant them out soon after I raise the plastic. Should look pretty - oh, what a change! :o)
> I forgot to mention that farmers now dose beasts with Ivermectin
Thanks for the info, Jimmy. I'll be sure to encourage my benefactor (viz, my mum) :o) only to purchase organic-certified composts or manures and trust that they are well decomposed. Hopefully when I have my composter going I'll be able to supply my own compost at least :o)

Seasons Greetings,

> I would be very interested to see a few shots of the area around your allotment
I'm reading up on how to use the panoramic feature of my camera. I'll have a go when I'm next on site (and it's not raining!) :o)
> We get summer from 31 July to 1 August up here.
Short summers then :)
Where abouts roughly are you, Jimmy, if you don't mind me asking (apologies if you've already told me, my memory's often terrible) :o)
Happy Holidays,
Tim
