Thanks, Jimmy. I was pleased with that photo as I'm still very much a 'point and shoot' person when it comes to cameras and it amazes me that it's possible thesedays to get such results with only what is a relatively modest digital camera and it's 'macro' setting.

> I was pondering over your layout for the plot and wondered if you had considered the “reach”?

I was going on the '4ft rule' for narrow beds which I make to be around 120cms. I'll take your advice though and have a go measuring my 'reach' next time I'm doing some weeding.

> The paths should be wide enough to accommodate a wheelbarrow and allow you to pass!

Yes, good thinking, I'll be sure to check this also.

> Another thought is that if you placed the compost bins in the middle of the plot they would be a shorter walk from any part

As it's only a half plot I think I'll risk this annoyance - besides I do need all the exercise I can get. My living so close to Britain's oldest brewery (so Shepherd Neame claim) is beginning to take its toll on my waistline! :o)

> Would there be any benefit to shorter rows for the plants to allow more of a mix of plants?

My only real fear for making the beds shorter in length is that they might end up looking suspiciously like graves :o) There is one plot nearby to me in which this has happened (I don't feel it would be right of me to take a direct pic of it though). Maybe I shouldn't care so much over 'looks' (this black plastic is really getting to me - watch out for my next post!) :o)

Great food for thought, thankyou!
