Thanks for the link, Jim. I might well end up giving her technique a go! One thing I didn't see mentioned though, was that it would be cruel I feel not to release back a suckling female (I don't know if female moles leave their young to forage, and how obvious their teats are - it's possible to tell in live-captured rabbits I read). I might send her an email on this point.
No deer problems (certainly no cows around) as far as I'm aware.

I'll probably add some compost to the area I'm thinking of sowing with a green manure, simply to help hold the moisture (I'm dreading a hot summer as we are chronically low in rainfall down here at present. Hosepipe bans are already being talked about!) :o(
Once I'm cutting the beds (hopefully by this time next year) I'll add a goodly amount of well-rotted manure/compost (shop brought) to give them a good start in life. From then on I'll rely on the worms doing the job for me, by deep mulching (with hopefully my own home-made compost in main).
