00336Total Allotment Time: 2 & 1/4hrs. Principle Tasks: Planting out purple-leaved violet and 'Hedgehog' gooseberry into perimeter bed. Planting unknown spring bulbs into same bed Going over 'clear' areas with a three-pronged cultivator to break up surface panning. Spot-hoeing same.

Hi Tim , It's a beautiful tree you have there - do you now the latin name ot this tree? The birds will love the berries on it. Hi Rita. Yes, it's Sorbus aria (or a close cultivated relative - apparently it was planted as part of the 'Plant a Tree in 73' campaign). Their common name over here is Whitebeam (due to the white downy undersides to it's leaves). By the time I took on the plot last october (see my very first post) the birds had stripped it of it's berries. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes this time around :o)
