Garden Hibernacula

Whilst looking through the RPSB's Homes for Wildlife site (See yesterday's post) I found this excellent page on how to build a refuge for reptiles (Known in the singular as a hibernaculum - Jimmy was first to put me on to them I remember):

Building a hibernaculum

As I'm soon* going to be starting on clearing the old compost heap (it's where I'm hoping to put my shed - an allotment's not an allotment without one! :) ) I'm determined to create my own purpose-built five-star abode for all the lizards I'm regrettably going to be making homeless by doing so. I've already put aside a suitable spot (next to the rhubarb at the bottom end of the border L-bed) and will make building it my next priority after finishing the bed construction

* knowing me 'soon' will be in several months time (but long before the reptiles think about going into brumation again - a term Jimmy should be impressed by my using) :)

I am curious how the refuge for the reptiles is going to be.
I follow the progress :o)

Best Regards
Hugs to you and Huggy

Cheers Rita. Yes, it's sure to be interesting - will they take to my efforts? My hope is next summer to be able to sit on my bench and watch the lizards basking in the sun only a couple of metres away!
