The asparagus is getting away, but I still managed another harvest.

Monday, April 25, 2011

Something got to the asparagus. Frisky bunnies chased by foxes/doggies methinks. Still, I got another good harvest.

She's Out!

# 1452# 1451# 1450# 1449# 1448# 1447# 1446# 1445# 1444# 1443Total Allotment Time: 3 & 1/2 hrs.
Principle Tasks: General weeding. Mulching the last of the potato bed (VB03). Planting three 'Tiny Tim' tomatoes into VB02.

PS. Unfortunately, times continue not-so-great for me (physically, especially). I'm a case of Pseudo-cushing's syndrome, or I've got what's called a Pheochromocytoma (the latter, me hopes) :) Honest apologies therefore for my inability at present to reply quickly to comments posted.

# 1407A common lizard sunning itself on the old turf mound.

One Down?

# 1147.10I've a bad feeling that I've lost one of the asparagus (or should that be asparagi?) Only one of the two crowns nearest the globe artichoke at the top of the picture has so far put up a spear. Are they incompatible, or is it only that the artichoke is taking up more moisture from the soil?

# 1147.09The 'Epicure' potatoes are all looking good though. My finger's are crossed that frosty mornings are behind us.

# 1147.08How the 'slope end' of the wildlife pond appears now I've decided to go for it (Notice the new label below).

# 1147.07The seedlings I brought up from home today. Clockwise from top left: 7 Spinach 'Medania', 3 Carrot 'Parmex', and 5 Lettuce 'Ice King'.

# 1147.06The 'Sturon' onions in veg bed 01 seem to be doing okay.

Time to break out the bubbly?

1098.06
All four fruit/veg beds are complete! Now to finish laying the last of the 'internal' paths (Unfortunately it was too windy to do so today) and then to put my feet up - if only, eh?

1098.051098.04

This hoverfly certainly thought so though - She didn't notice my attentions at all! Species? Possibly: Eupeodes luniger? Something spooky about grape hyacinths? - I'm beginning to agree! :o)

1098.03
The asparagus is showing!

1098.02
How the rhubarb looked prior to mulching..

1098.01
.. and one of the blackcurrents after (hmm.. ever the neat and tidy?) :o)

Total Allotment Time: 2 & 3/4hrs
Principle Tasks: Completing construction of the wood-edged veg beds! Mulching around the rhubarb and the blackcurrent with shop-brought composted stable-manure.
