# 0464Total Allotment Time: 2hrs.
Principle Task: Removing old pallets from the existing compost/rubbish heap at bottom of plot (I say rubbish heap, as I discovered four sacks worth of ripped plastic compost bags) and putting them (the pallets, not the bags) on the communal bonfire.

Hi Jimmy. Yes, I guess I was being a little paranoid again over fireworks. Having a dog who's petrified of them really has polarised my views - public sales of them, if folk arn't able to keep them to two nights a year (bonfire night and new year/Burn's night - do folk let them off for this in Scotland?), really should be stopped though.

Many trees are still hanging on to their leaves due I think in part to this settled weather we've been having for over a week now - next time the wind really blows should see a change.

No, I can't say I've seen a long-tailed tit before (and guess I would recognise one if I did). We've a lot of talk this year down here over the overall drop in bird numbers with speculation it might be caused by infections picked up at bird feeders, tables, etc. Have you heard anything on this and, if so, do you think I should put seed out this winter?

Regards again,
Tim :o)

PS. Magpies, yes, by the proverbial bucket full :o) Many folk (especially out in the sticks) resent them, and I must admit after seeing one terrorise and take a fledgling sparrow, they're not my favourite (although I guess they had young of their own to feed).
